Overdosed on GIS

Wow, it's been a long while since I've written....

Mostly because I've been frightfully busy. I finished off my first block of classes 2 weeks ago (was it 2? 3?) and was thinking I'd have more free time after that as I wouldn't have so many classes. But my schedule really hasn't opened up at all. This block I am taking a Java programming class (which will help me model objects, which are better at modeling time and change over history than models based on relationships do) and auditing a class on distributed GIS (i.e. how to post mapped info to the internet, etc). This block I am also still taking my Research Practice and Project Planning class, the professor for which seems completely disorganized (i.e. the course outline and herself don't agree on important things like due dates, paper lengths and requirements).

Went on a field trip for my RPPP class last weekend to Perthshire. Had nice weather on Saturday, but while tramping through a bog with a GPS device I twisted my ankle- didn't really feel it till I cgot back to the field center and took off my boots, but it was bad enough that I couldn't go out the next day and stayed in the lab doing data entry for my group. ... for better or worse- it rained torrentially on Sunday and Liam and Maddie came back with stories about creepy abandoned villages and devil sheep. I'll post some pics here if I can figure out how, but if not, I've got about a dozen up on Facebook.

The ankle has been healing pretty well, though I think I set my recovery back by going out to a ceilidh on Friday night. At first, I was good and only danced slow and non-jumping-around dances like waltzes and 2 steps. But then the band started the Swedish Masquerade, my favorite dance (probably my favorite because it's so ridiculous) and I had a chance to dance it with Craig, my favorite dance partner (probably my favorite because he's so ridiculous), so......
....and then there was the obligatory post-ceilidh visit to the pub... and then Craig had to go find himself his obligatory post-ceilidh kebab (which I ate half of after asking for 'just a taste') so it was three in the morning before I got home.

Yesterday was spent lazing about recovering from a one evening overdose of fun and a two-week overdose of GIS. The worst part about being a student might be the guilt I feel everytime I take a break and am not reading or researching or bashing keys in the lab :P
